Kathy began dancing at the age of 9 when her mother enrolled her in Ballet because she was turning into an awkward tomboy. She fell in love with ballet and wanted nothing more than to be a prima ballerina in the Joffrey Company. When she finally got the audition, she was told that she would have to loose 10 more pounds to be accepted into the company. At 115 pounds and already too thin for her health, she gave up ballet and dance for 1 year before landing a job at the MGM Grand in Reno, which was being built at the time to house Donn Arden’s greatest show, “Hello Hollywood, Hello.”
James was attending USC Chico as a music major and needed two units to fill out his curriculum. Someone suggested beginning ballet and he took off. Adding more dance classes he won a scholarship to the San Francisco Ballet where he stayed for one year. He then moved over to the Oakland Ballet for one month and then onto the Ballet Arlu for a year. After one year with the Arlu and at the top of the company, he quit, as he still needed a side job to support himself. One year later, he saw the opening of the MGM in Reno, auditioned for the show, met Kathy and the two began working together on adagio.
